Symptoms of gestational diabetes
In many cases, women do not have any symptoms of gestational diabetes and the diagnosis comes as a surprise. Occasionally women may experience a range of symptoms that can lead to them presenting to their doctor or midwife.
These most commonly include:
Increased thirst
Increased frequency of passing urine
Extreme tiredness
These symptoms may be indistinguishable to some of the normal experiences of pregnancy, and so standard testing is important for all women who have risk factors for developing gestational diabetes.
Receiving a diagnosis of diabetes can be a difficult time for many. Feel free to share your experience of being diagnosed with diabetes with others in the comments below.
