Other risks for pregnancy

As a whole, gestational diabetes is associated with an increased chance of:

• Large babies; more likely to be born by c-section or have a difficult labour.
• Early (pre-term) birth
• Low blood glucose in the baby at birth
• Type 2 diabetes in the mother and baby later in life
• High blood pressure or pre-eclampsia in the mother
