Before starting any weight loss programme to achieve remission, it’s really important that you speak to a healthcare professional or a member of your diabetes team.
This is to make sure it is appropriate for you and that you can do so safely. They may want to monitor your progress so they can adjust or reduce any medications that you take.
They may also be able to refer you to a weight management programme in your area or other healthcare professionals that may be able to help you in your weight loss journey.

Which diet is best for remission?
The programme that has been shown to be effective is the very low-calorie diet which achieves rapid weight loss making remission more likely. This diet is not right for everyone. We’ll discuss this in more detail in the next topic.
However, there are other more gradual approaches that can also help people help people achieve remission, such as intermittent fasting, low carb, low-fat and Mediterranean diets.
It doesn’t matter which approach you decide to follow, what is important is that you are able to stick to it to achieve and maintain your weight loss.
