Hallucinogens

Hallucinogens

Examples include:

  • LSD, cannabis, magic mushrooms, solvents

You’ll feel:

  • Happy, less inhibited, more sensitive, hungry; your senses will be altered, so you might see and hear things that aren’t there.

You might experience:

  • Disorientation, confusion, lack of coordination, paranoia, poor judgement, loss of motivation, sleepiness, and nausea. These drugs can make mental health issues worse, over time. There’s also no way to know whether the hallucinations you have will be pleasant or unpleasant.

You should be concerned about:

  • Increased risk of high blood glucose and diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Missing insulin due to not noticing time or being distracted by other changes in the way you feel things.
  • Eating more because of increased appetite, without counting carbs, or eating lots of sugary, high carb or high-fat foods.
  • Disruption to your routine due to sleepiness might affect your blood glucose levels.
  • Cannabis is known to lower blood glucose levels so if you’re taking a lot of it you are at increased risk of hypos.
